High speed Brussels-Lille railway line sabotaged

The signaling cables of a high-speed railway line between Brussels and Lille were apparently sabotaged with arson in four separate places, leading to travel disruptions throughout Monday. The damage is thought to have happened in the Hainaut region of Belgium. No trains were traveling from Brussels to Lille on the line all morning. Eurostar lines to London were all cancelled and then delayed throughout the day. No risk was posed to any passengers since traffic ceases when the signal is disrupted.

Among the passengers affected was Emmanuel Macron, the French finance minister, who was forced to cancel his trip to meet his counterparts in the Belgian capital.
