Camden is one more of the current frontlines of gentrification in London, as the developers move to clean up the area, pushing drug dealers and other “antisocial” riffraff off the streets, turning classic gay cabaret venue the Black Cap into a trendy cafe, etc etc., aiming to make yet another identikit sterile zone.
What can get pissed off passers-by into the street to join together and make a stand? Well, even in these zombified times many of us do have at least two things in common:
1) We love a party
2) We hate the cops
So maybe: go to a busy area with lots of people in the street and an undercurrent of simmering tension, bring some 12 Volt battery powered sound systems along (try to play music the kids might dance to), take the roads and throw a rowdy street party, and put out lots of aggy propaganda before hand so the cops are pretty sure to turn up and start trying to throw their weight around. Just might make something happen.
Anyway, sounds like a much better idea than forming some pointless joke political party and standing in elections.
Thanks to Class War for calling this one. Less political parties, more street parties.
Meet outside Camden Tube 7PM Saturday 11 July.
