At dawn on Wednesday, Italian riot police evicted the 200-person No Borders camp that has been on the border between France and Italy since June in response to the state closure of the border there. The camp’s inhabitants moved onto the rocks on the shore to make eviction more difficult, but the police surrounded them and held them there for hours. Meanwhile, as is routine in Calais, bulldozers were used to destroy people’s tents and belongings.

Following negotiations, (non European) migrants were taken to a Red Cross camp, while the Europeans were arrested for illegal occupation of public land, and have since been released. The closing of the border had made it more difficult for comrades in France to reach the camp during its eviction.

There have already been solidarity demos in many Italian cities. A day of transnational solidarity has also been called for 4th October.
