Report from Brighton Hunt Saboteurs:
This week Brighton Hunt Sabs went to Edenbridge to stop the Old Surrey and Burstow Hunt killing foxes.
We began the day at Black Robin Farm, where the hunt were drinking mulled wine or something. After the quad bike laid a false trail, the poorly supported hunt headed north a bit to cross the railway and then spent all day around Troy Town, Gaywood and Guildables Wood. The hunt followed artificial trails all day, though a couple of times the hounds did get onto the scent of a fox. We are quite sure those foxes would have been chased and ripped apart if it weren’t for the presence of saboteurs with video cameras.
Our group was held up for a bit by our old friends Surrey Cops. Today the excuse for stopping our vehicle was that “there are a lot of burglaries in the area.” They always dream up something but that one was a bit lame, eh? They searched the whole vehicle but, of course, only found sabbing equipment like citronella, maps, and sandwiches.
Before 3pm the huntsman had gone back to the meet with no kills. It was a successful but uneventful day where we basically just had to stay with the hunt to keep them in check.
We were pleased to meet a landowner who did not allow the hunt on their land. There are quite a few people who don’t but sometimes the hunt can make it difficult. There’s a group called Hounds Off who help.
The vegan cakes at the end of the day were particularly good this week, with glittery mince pies, holly icing, chocolate cake and brandy truffles. Can it get any better than that? Watch this space for some vegan cake recipes before Christmas. Do get in touch if you want to join us saving foxes and other hunted wildlife, even if it’s just for Boxing Day.
By the way, if you were a bit confused by the header, Scum of Toy Town is a dub punk band that some of us like.
