Yesterday (9 May) from 3PM hundreds of angry Tory-hating citizens gathered outside conservative party HQ, then marched around central London stopping at Westminster Bridge and Trafalgar Square, before ending up in a scrap with the Met police outside Downing Street.
The cops rushed the crowd with batons, and sent snatch squads to grab and arrest people. The people fought throwing street furniture, empty water bottles, smoke bombs and whatever objects came to hand. Five cops were injured, two badly enough to be taken to hospital. One of the hospitalised coppers, hit in the face apparently by a road cone and seen bleeding profusely from the mouth, was a photographer from the hated “FIT” (Forward Intelligence) surveillance team.
On our side, many people were grabbed and beaten, a few let go but others held. State media says that 15 people were arrested for “Violent Disorder” and other offences. All but one have now been let go on bail.
Right wing media are outraged by someone writing “Fuck Tory Scum” on a war memorial.
The demo ended when the cops managed to surround and kettle a part of the crowd, and most other people ran away to avoid the same fate.
It was particularly good to see many young kids on the street yesterday. Some have pointed out that, while Labour governments in this country typically mean increasing prison numbers and genocidal wars of aggression, Tory governments mean more riots and more open social conflict on the streets. Here’s to new generations of Tory-hating street fighters.
On the down side, yesterday saw the Met police bring out a frightening new weapon: the hipster cop (see scary picture below). It also emerged that disgraced ex Labour Ed Millipede has already got himself a new job as a TSG riot cop.
